Hazard as captain for his final game at Lille (Source: dailymail.co.uk) |
(Hazard Keeps Us Guessing!)
Belgian International Eden Hazard has confirmed he is still
undecided about where his future lies when leaves Lille in the summer transfer window.
Hazard has made it clear that he is to leave the club where he started his
career, with his last match against Nancy taking place on Sunday night, where
it was originally thought he would reveal his destination.
However, the attacking midfielder has fuelled further speculation
by claiming he is still undecided, saying his agent has spoken with Manchester
(without specifying which side) and Chelsea, whose recent Champions League win
he has said has made them look a more appealing possibility.
It is almost without doubt that the 21 year-old will be
strutting his stuff in the Barclays Premier League next season, but at which
club is anyone’s guess. Originally, it looked like Manchester was his city of preference;
with City the favourites to land him however since Chelsea’s Champions League
success it has thrown them back into the picture.
So where could he go? I personally believe Hazard would have
fitted in well with the playing ethos at North London club Arsenal, where he
was linked with last season. Surprisingly, Arsene Wenger elected to sign Hazard’s
former team mate Gervinho, whether Wenger or Arsenal attempt a last minute
hijack is unclear, despite desperately needing to improve their squad it seems
however a move to the red half of North London does not look on the cards.
South-West London could however be the potential destination of the playmaker,
having publically stated that he is considering a switch to the Blues, Chelsea
have to be amongst the favourites.
A Manchester side, or perhaps both, has also been in
contention amongst the bidders. Roberto Mancini has stated that Man City will
have the spending power comparable to Barcelona and Real Madrid; with Eden
Hazard fitting comfortably into such a bracket, Man City in my view are the
sure-fire favourites, especially on off the back of securing their first title
for 44 years. Nonetheless, I would not rule out Manchester United from pouncing
to steal the deal.
In my view he would be valued greater at Old Trafford than
at the Etihad, due to the fact that United are searching for playmaking
midfielder and Hazard would slot into the United set up easily and most
importantly; as a key player. At City on the other hand, the vast amount of
talent in their squad at their disposal could mean Hazard won’t get as much
playing time as he may like or be considered as vital to the first team.
Nevertheless contradictorily, being amongst similar styled players such as
David Silva and Sergio Aguero could beneficial, aiding his development to reach
the potential of being one of the world’s finest players, an accolade he is
more than capable of attaining.
At the moment, we can only speculate, where he ends up.
Personally, I’d want him at Old Trafford next season. One thing we do know however
is that he will have made his decision by June 2nd, before the
England vs. Belgium game.
